The AI functions at OncoTrials MY exist to support you with information and direction, never to replace clinical care. These guidelines set out the boundaries of our AI functions: what they help with, what they will not do, and where clinical and medicolegal responsibility sits.
1. A support tool, not a clinician
The AI functions within OncoTrials MY, including the enquiry assistant, trial search and matching support, the Oncology Concierge service, and referral coordination, are digital support tools. They assist with information, coordination, and guidance, but they do not practise medicine.
They do not diagnose cancer, stage disease, interpret pathology or imaging, prescribe or alter treatment, or make clinical decisions on your behalf. Every medical decision remains the responsibility of your treating oncologist and your care team at the treating centre.
2. It does not replace the human care team
The AI may help gather your details, summarise your concerns, and route information to the OncoTrials MY team, but it does not replace our human oncology concierge team, or the clinical team at a trial site.
Final referral confirmation, appointment scheduling, eligibility screening, clinical prioritisation, and personal follow-up are handled by people: our concierge team, and the investigators and research staff at the treating centre, not by the AI.
3. Trial matching and screening are aids, not decisions
Matching and screening scores are indicative aids. They help you and our team see which trials may be worth exploring, in the same way a well-informed colleague might point you in a direction.
A score is not an eligibility decision and not a place in a trial. Eligibility is determined only by the trial's clinical team against its protocol, and participation only begins with your informed consent, in writing, at the treating centre.
4. What the AI will not do
It will not:
- provide a personal medical diagnosis, or stage your disease;
- recommend, change, or stop a specific treatment regimen;
- interpret your individual test results, pathology, or imaging;
- prescribe or dose medication;
- confirm that you are eligible for, or enrolled in, a clinical trial;
- offer emergency or urgent medical advice.
In an emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately (in Malaysia, dial 999). Never rely on the AI for urgent care.
5. No use outside the designated functions
Our AI functions may be used only for their designated purposes: learning about cancer clinical trials, exploring trial options, requesting a referral or Oncology Concierge support, subscribing to the Platform, and contacting our team.
Any other use is prohibited, and access may be withdrawn where these limits are breached. Prohibited use includes, without limitation:
- using the AI for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose, or to help anyone else do so;
- attempting to extract, harvest, or scrape private or personal information about other users, patients, clinicians, or trial participants;
- uploading or sharing another person's personal data, medical records, or test results without their lawful authority and consent;
- using the AI to identify, re-identify, or deanonymise any individual;
- probing, circumventing, or disabling the Platform's safety, privacy, security, or access controls, or attempting to reach data you are not entitled to see;
- scraping, copying, or bulk-extracting the Platform's content, trial listings, or AI outputs by automated means;
- submitting false, impersonated, or deliberately misleading details, or impersonating another person or organisation;
- using AI outputs to give medical advice to others, to prescribe, or to present our AI content as clinical advice;
- using the AI to harass, threaten, or discriminate against any person, or to generate content that is defamatory, hateful, or exploitative;
- reverse engineering, reselling, or repurposing the AI functions, or using them to build a competing service.
These prohibitions sit alongside Malaysian law, including the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, the Computer Crimes Act 1997, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and the Penal Code. Where we detect prohibited use, we may suspend or terminate access, preserve the relevant records, and report the matter to the relevant authorities.
6. Ethics and data use
Information you share is used to support your care journey and may be reviewed by the OncoTrials MY team. Where you ask us to refer you, it is shared with the relevant trial site or clinical team. How we collect, use, and protect that information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which follows the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
The AI is bound to compassionate, non-judgemental, evidence-aware communication. It draws on reputable sources, such as published trial registries, peer-reviewed literature, and regulator announcements, but those sources do not replace the professional judgement of your clinician.
Always confirm any information with your treating oncologist before acting on it.
7. Medicolegal boundaries
Use of these AI tools does not create a doctor-patient relationship through the Platform alone, and it does not make you a participant in any clinical trial.
No content generated by the AI constitutes medical advice. OncoTrials MY and its AI functions accept no liability for decisions made solely on AI-generated output.
Your formal clinical relationship, consent, and care plan are established with your treating oncologist and the treating centre, not with the AI.
